RECEIPENT OF PRESIDENT AWARDS AND OFFICE BEARERS CALL ON HIS GRACE AT BISHOP'S HOUSE



Six Scouts and Guides from Goa were Qualified for “ Rashtrapati Puraskar” the highest and prestigious Awards for any scout or a guide . Those selected are Scout Allister A. Fernandes and Scout Vaman Zende of Regina Mundi H. School – Chicalim, Scout Gajanan Kauthanker of O. L. Mount Carmel H. S.- Arambol, Guide Anouska B . Rodrigues of St. Joseph's Education Institute – Chandor, Guide Amita Porob and Guide Ashwita Pinto of St. Michael's H. School - Anjuna
In the final stages they were meticulously trained by ALT T. E. Philip and STC(G) Elizabeth Mascarenhas.
The Awards were given at the hands of Rashtrapati Dr. Pratibha Patil at the award ceremony to be held on 23rd Sept. 2009 at 11.00 a.m. at Ashoka Hall, Rashtrapati Bhavan , New Delhi.

At the same Awards ceremony Dr. Sydney Pinto Do Rosario- Vice President of Bharat Scouts & Guides, Goa State and Shri Raghuvir G. Dessai Former State Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts & Guides, Goa State will be awarded the prestigious "SILVER ELEPHANT" Awards for long service to the Movement.
The group called on the His Grace the Arch Bishop Filipe Neri Ferrao at Bhishop's House at Altinho and sought his blessings.

GOVERNOR CONGRATULATES BS&G-GOA ON FOUNDERS DAY





Governor Dr. SHIVENDER singh Sidhu is being pinned the “founder day” flag by the PRO of the bharat scouts and guides organization -goa state, Shri John Aguiar on November 7, 2009 on the occasion of bharat scouts and guides flag day.

Governor of Goa , Dr. Shivinder Singh Sidhu has congratulated the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State on the Founders cum Flag Day of the organization. He stressed the need for giving further momentum to the Scouts and Guides movement in Goa by way of motivation, encouragement and taking up more activities.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State observed the foundation day of the organization on November 7, 2009. The Day is also commemorated as `Flag Day’.

The PRO of the organization Shri John Aguiar along with Guides, Miss Anjali Aguiar, Miss. Pallavi Lawande and Scout Shubam Tiwari of People’s High School, Panaji visited the Raj Bhavan recently and pinned the Founder day flag to the Governor Dr. Shivinder Singh Sidhu.

Secretary to the Governor, Shri Narendra Kumar, IAS and ADC to Governor Major Manish Kumar Singh were also present.

The Governor observed that the scouts and Guides movement, interalia, focuses on self discipline, character building, team spirit, communal harmony, secular ethos, amity and brotherhood, which are imperative for peace, progress and prosperity of the state. He said that children are future of tomorrow, who have to take the state and the nation to the part of prosperity and shape its destiny. He said, women have a greater role to play. Referring to girl guides, the Governor said that women have a great part to play in the progress of our country. Indira Gandhi our late Prime Minister was held in high esteem the world over. Our Rashtrapati today is a woman. Women in India, he said are heading towards advancement by dint of their devotion, dedication and determination.

PRO Shri John Aguiar informed His Excellency about the activities that are conducted by the Bharat Scouts and Guides Association, Goa State, the strength of Girl guides and Scouts, the significance of founders day and others.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides was formed on November 7, 1950 after merging different Scout Organization and the Girl Guide Associations which were earlier working separately. Thus November 7, is a memorable day in the history of Scouting and Guiding Movement in India and the day is celebrated as the “Flag Day”.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides is a voluntary organization getting financial assistance from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for various activities. It is devoted to selfless service to the country. Also, as a non-formal education movement, it makes the scouts & guides self reliant, resourceful, discover their talent and ever helpful toward others.

FELICITATION OF SILVER ELEPHANT AWARDEES



RECEIPENT OF SILVER ELEPHANT PRESIDENT OF BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES GOA STATE DR. WILFRED DE SOUZA AND VICE PRESIDENT DR SIDNEY PINTO DO ROSARIO WERE FELICITATED RECENTLY FOR THEIR ACHIEVEMENT.

Dr. wilfred de souza, Deputy Chairperson of State planning board and president of Bharat Scouts and Guides Goa State is seen speaking during felicitation accorded to him and Dr. Sidney Pinto do Rosario Vice resident of Bharat Scouts and Guides Association for being the receipent of silver elephant president's award by the Bardez District Association of Bharat Scouts and Guides recently. State Chief Commisioner Shri P.R. Nadkarni, State Treasurer Shri Rodney D'Souza and Dr Edward de Lima were also present.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides Bardez district Association had their annual council meet cum felicitation of silver elephant awardees-Dr. Sydney Pinto do Rosario who received the award in September 2009 and the belated felicitation for Dr. Wilfred de Souza for the same award received earlier. The Bardez District council and District Executive Members Council and District executive members were present at this function.

Dr. Wilfred de Souza and Dr. Sydney Pinto do Rosario lauded the work carried out by the scouts and Guides movement in Goa and hoped that this movement would continue to give their selfless service to the state and to the Nation lat large.

NATIONAL HONOUR FOR GOAN OFFICE BEARERS



PANAJI: The 'Silver Elephant', scouting's highest national award, has been awarded this year to two Goans, Dr Sidney Pinto do Rosario and R G Desai.

The presentation ceremony, at the hands of President Pratibha Patil, was held at the Ashoka Hall, Rashtrapathi Bhavan, New Delhi, at 11am on September 23.

The Silver Elephant is bestowed on individuals who have provided 'meritorious service of the most exceptional character' in the scouting and guiding movement. The last time a Goan was a recipient of this award was 15 years ago.

'Dr Sidney', as the gynaecologist is popularly called, has spent more than three decades promoting the scouting movement in the state. At present, he is the senior vice-president of the Goa Bharat Scouts and Guides Association and president of the Bardez district. Incidentally, his father, the late Dr Antonio Pinto do Rosario, was the first president of this movement.

Desai, who hails from Ponda, retired from the post of development officer at the Life Insurance Corporation of India. He devotes much of his time to social work and to his scouting duties. He has been recently promoted as vice-president of the association.

Dr Sidney runs the Dr Antonio Pinto do Rosario Maternity Hospital, Porvorim, the oldest existing maternity hospital in Goa, which was founded by his father in 1938.
