BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES TISWADI CELEBRATE “ THINKING DAY”

The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Tiswadi District- Goa State celebrated “Thinking Day” at Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services grounds at St. Inez on February 22, 2010. February 22nd marks the birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement. Coincidentally, B-P (born in 1857) and his wife Olave Baden-Powell (born in 1889), shared the same birthday. It is considered a special day, as well as an opportunity to learn more about BP's life and his work. His Writings remain inspiring to many and incredibly on phase with our times.

Director of Fire & Emergency Services, Shri Ashok Menon was the Chief Guest of the function.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Menon said that essence of scouting is that everyone in the organization is committed to give something to the society. Way back in 1907 Robert Baden-Powell lit a torch that was destined to carry a message of peace and comradeship, through millions of boys and girls, to the homes of the world. This flame was fanned by the "Spirit of Adventure" and service by the boys of the first band of friendship camping together on Brownsea Island. He wished the movement all the success and extended his support to the good cause.

On arrival he was received by President of the Tiswadi unit, Shri Shaikh Suleman Karol, Vice Presidents of the Bharat Scouts and Guides-Goa State, Shri Vishnu Dhargalkar and State Commissioner (Scouts) Adv. Vinayak Narvekar and State Organizing commissioner Shri K. Chopdekar. Thereafter he unfurled the Bharat Scouts Guide flag followed by the flag song by the scouts and guides.

Shri Menon also lighted the traditional lamp and garlanded the portrait of Lord Baden Powell along with other dignitaries.

Around 800 Scouts and Guides from 16 schools of Tiswadi attended the event and enjoyed the different activities such as fire fighting, rescue methods and the fire lift and they learned lessons about extinguishing different types of fires.
Station Fire Officer Shri Ajit Kamat supervised the fire fighting and rescue demonstration. The scouts and guides also demonstrated some obstacle crossing on the monkey bridge.
Shri Tukaram Kholkar proposed a vote of thanks.
