ONE DAY REFRESHER COURSE FOR SCOUTMASTERS, GUIDECAPTAINS

ONE DAY REFRESHER COURSE FOR SCOUTMASTERS, GUIDECAPTAINS


Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State organized a one day refresher Course for trained scoutmasters and Guidecaptains of the member schools in south Goa. In all 44 Scoutmasters and Guidecaptains attended the course conducted on 24th July 2010,at Grace Church Hall, Margao.
Mr.Subhash Fal Dessai- Social Worker and Ex- ZP member –Balli, Quepem was the chief guest for the Inaugural Function.
The participants were acquainted with the latest changes in the boy Girl Programme, advancement of Scouts ,Guides and unit leaders, practical sessions on skill development were conducted. The participants also had fruitful group discussions to solve the teething problems encountered in the smooth running of scout and guide units in the schools and ways and means to make the movement more vibrant and responsive to the needs of young boys and girls.LT (s) Diogo Fernandes , Lt (G ) Elizabeth Mascarenhas, ALt (s)R. V. Rane, ALt(s) T.E. Philip, Counsellor Donald Muriel, State Secretary James Fernandes conducted the course.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR SCOUTS AND GUIDES HELD


Bharat scouts and Guides, Goa State held orientation programme on 22nd June2010 for the new scout, Guide units of St. Joseph’s High School, Takwada, Usgao and Immaculate Conception high School, Dabal.
The opportunities available to the scouts ,Guides and Scoutmasters and Guide captains were explained by the State Secretary Mr. James Fernandes through the display of posters and Photographs and shared the success story.
The State training Commissioner Mr. Diogo Fernandes inspired the students by highlighting the essence of scouting and Guiding and the relevance of ideals of scouting in the development of students.
State Training Counsellor Mr. Donald Muriel demonstrated the unique methodology adopted in the training of scouts and guides and impressed upon the need of starting Scout and guide units in every School in Goa. Earlier Fr. Felix Lobo -Principal welcomed the Team at St. Joseph’s School, Usgao.
At Immaculate Conception H. School Sr. Filomena Rodrigues- Headmistress Welcomed and later proposed the Vote of Thanks.

CM UNDERSCORES NEED FOR DISCIPLINE AMONG YOUTH



Chief Minister Shri Digambar Kamat has underscored the need for discipline among the youth and therefore felt that organizations like Scouts and Guides and NCC play an important role to inculcate discipline, punctuality and a sense of patriotism among the youth apart from fulfilling the needs and aspirations of young people by offering attractive, innovative and challenging programme through their involvement in decision making so as to make them responsible adults and citizens.

Chief Minister Shri Digambar Kamat was speaking at a function to inaugurate the of the centenary year of Guiding movement in India and presentation of awards to the scouts and adult leaders at a function organized by Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State at Menezes Braganza hall in Panjim on April 17, 2010.





Speaking further Shri Kamat said, Scouts use a specific method that makes each individual the principal agent in his development as a self-reliant, supportive, responsible and committed person. Scout masters help them to establish a value system based upon spiritual and personal principles as expressed in the Promise and Law. He agreed to a suggestion by Dr. Wilfred de Souza and favoured introducing Scouts and Guides in schools right from the 6th standard to tap them young.

In his presidential address President of Dr. Wilfred de Souza felt the need for introducing scouts and guides from the 6th standard in the school. He also spoke about the camping site for the association and its development.

Chief Minister Shri Kamat presented Scoutmaster Late Baba Sukhtankar Awards on the occasion. The awards were bagged by Scoutmaster Shri Jeronimo Fernandes of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Arambol-Pedne and Guider Smt. Bertille Rodrigues of St. Mary’s High School, Varca.

Chief Minister also presented certificates to the Rashtrapati award winner scouts. The Chief Minister felicitated the adult leaders and the scouts and guides for earning highest amount of Bob-a-job 2209-2010.
Those present on the occasion included Vice presidents Smt. Nirmala Sawant, Shri Vishnu Dhargalkar, Smt. Silvia D’ Souza.
State Chief Commissioner Shri P. R. Nadkarni explained the role of the Bharat Scouts and Guides.
State Commissioner (Scouts) Shri Vinayak Narvekar welcomed the gathering and State Secretary Shri James Fernandes proposed a vote of thanks. Commissioner (Guides), Smt. Elizibeth Mascarenhas.

BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES TISWADI CELEBRATE “ THINKING DAY”




The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Tiswadi District- Goa State celebrated “Thinking Day” at Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services grounds at St. Inez on February 22, 2010. February 22nd marks the birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement. Coincidentally, B-P (born in 1857) and his wife Olave Baden-Powell (born in 1889), shared the same birthday. It is considered a special day, as well as an opportunity to learn more about BP's life and his work. His Writings remain inspiring to many and incredibly on phase with our times.

Director of Fire & Emergency Services, Shri Ashok Menon was the Chief Guest of the function.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Menon said that essence of scouting is that everyone in the organization is committed to give something to the society. Way back in 1907 Robert Baden-Powell lit a torch that was destined to carry a message of peace and comradeship, through millions of boys and girls, to the homes of the world. This flame was fanned by the "Spirit of Adventure" and service by the boys of the first band of friendship camping together on Brownsea Island. He wished the movement all the success and extended his support to the good cause.

On arrival he was received by President of the Tiswadi unit, Shri Shaikh Suleman Karol, Vice Presidents of the Bharat Scouts and Guides-Goa State, Shri Vishnu Dhargalkar and State Commissioner (Scouts) Adv. Vinayak Narvekar and State Organizing commissioner Shri K. Chopdekar. Thereafter he unfurled the Bharat Scouts Guide flag followed by the flag song by the scouts and guides.

Shri Menon also lighted the traditional lamp and garlanded the portrait of Lord Baden Powell along with other dignitaries.

Around 800 Scouts and Guides from 16 schools of Tiswadi attended the event and enjoyed the different activities such as fire fighting, rescue methods and the fire lift and they learned lessons about extinguishing different types of fires.
Station Fire Officer Shri Ajit Kamat supervised the fire fighting and rescue demonstration. The scouts and guides also demonstrated some obstacle crossing on the monkey bridge.
Shri Tukaram Kholkar proposed a vote of thanks.

BS&G FELICITATES DR. SYDNEY PINTO

STATE CHIEF COMMISSIONER SHRI P.R. NADKARNI IS SEEN FELICITATING SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF THE BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES ASSOCIATION-GOA STATE, DR. SYDNEY PINTO DO ROSARIO WHO WAS RECENTLY AWARDED SILVER ELEPHANT THE HIGHEST AWARD FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICES IN THE MOVEMENT AT THE HANDS OF PRESIDENT OF INDIA AT A FELICITATION FUNCTION AT THE ORGANISATION’S STATE HEADQUARTERS IN PANJIM JANUARY 11, 2010. STATE SECRETARY, SHRI JAMES FERNANDES AND STATE COMMISSIONER (SCOUTS) ADV. VINAYAK NARVEKAR ARE ALSO SEEN.



A special Executive committee meeting of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State was convened on January 11, 2010 to Felicitate Dr. Sydney Pinto Do Rosario a senior vice president of the movement who was awarded " Silver Elephant" Highest Award for meritorious service to the movement. Adv. Vinayak Narvenkar-State commissioner for Scouts Highlighted the valuable contribution of Dr. Sydney for past 32 years that he has been selflessly serving despite of his very demanding schedule as a renowned practitioner. The State chief commissioner Shri. P. R. Nadkarni presented a citation. State Secretary, Shri James Fernandes was also present.

RECEIPENT OF PRESIDENT AWARDS AND OFFICE BEARERS CALL ON HIS GRACE AT BISHOP'S HOUSE



Six Scouts and Guides from Goa were Qualified for “ Rashtrapati Puraskar” the highest and prestigious Awards for any scout or a guide . Those selected are Scout Allister A. Fernandes and Scout Vaman Zende of Regina Mundi H. School – Chicalim, Scout Gajanan Kauthanker of O. L. Mount Carmel H. S.- Arambol, Guide Anouska B . Rodrigues of St. Joseph's Education Institute – Chandor, Guide Amita Porob and Guide Ashwita Pinto of St. Michael's H. School - Anjuna
In the final stages they were meticulously trained by ALT T. E. Philip and STC(G) Elizabeth Mascarenhas.
The Awards were given at the hands of Rashtrapati Dr. Pratibha Patil at the award ceremony to be held on 23rd Sept. 2009 at 11.00 a.m. at Ashoka Hall, Rashtrapati Bhavan , New Delhi.

At the same Awards ceremony Dr. Sydney Pinto Do Rosario- Vice President of Bharat Scouts & Guides, Goa State and Shri Raghuvir G. Dessai Former State Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts & Guides, Goa State will be awarded the prestigious "SILVER ELEPHANT" Awards for long service to the Movement.
The group called on the His Grace the Arch Bishop Filipe Neri Ferrao at Bhishop's House at Altinho and sought his blessings.

GOVERNOR CONGRATULATES BS&G-GOA ON FOUNDERS DAY





Governor Dr. SHIVENDER singh Sidhu is being pinned the “founder day” flag by the PRO of the bharat scouts and guides organization -goa state, Shri John Aguiar on November 7, 2009 on the occasion of bharat scouts and guides flag day.

Governor of Goa , Dr. Shivinder Singh Sidhu has congratulated the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State on the Founders cum Flag Day of the organization. He stressed the need for giving further momentum to the Scouts and Guides movement in Goa by way of motivation, encouragement and taking up more activities.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State observed the foundation day of the organization on November 7, 2009. The Day is also commemorated as `Flag Day’.

The PRO of the organization Shri John Aguiar along with Guides, Miss Anjali Aguiar, Miss. Pallavi Lawande and Scout Shubam Tiwari of People’s High School, Panaji visited the Raj Bhavan recently and pinned the Founder day flag to the Governor Dr. Shivinder Singh Sidhu.

Secretary to the Governor, Shri Narendra Kumar, IAS and ADC to Governor Major Manish Kumar Singh were also present.

The Governor observed that the scouts and Guides movement, interalia, focuses on self discipline, character building, team spirit, communal harmony, secular ethos, amity and brotherhood, which are imperative for peace, progress and prosperity of the state. He said that children are future of tomorrow, who have to take the state and the nation to the part of prosperity and shape its destiny. He said, women have a greater role to play. Referring to girl guides, the Governor said that women have a great part to play in the progress of our country. Indira Gandhi our late Prime Minister was held in high esteem the world over. Our Rashtrapati today is a woman. Women in India, he said are heading towards advancement by dint of their devotion, dedication and determination.

PRO Shri John Aguiar informed His Excellency about the activities that are conducted by the Bharat Scouts and Guides Association, Goa State, the strength of Girl guides and Scouts, the significance of founders day and others.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides was formed on November 7, 1950 after merging different Scout Organization and the Girl Guide Associations which were earlier working separately. Thus November 7, is a memorable day in the history of Scouting and Guiding Movement in India and the day is celebrated as the “Flag Day”.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides is a voluntary organization getting financial assistance from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for various activities. It is devoted to selfless service to the country. Also, as a non-formal education movement, it makes the scouts & guides self reliant, resourceful, discover their talent and ever helpful toward others.
